Follow these steps to add an expiration date to your emails through your browser –

  1. Here your first step will be to log in to your Gmail account on your browser.
  2. Now the next step will be to compose new email and follow all the steps that are required to compose an email. At the bottom of the composition window, you will see a lock icon, click on that.
  3. This lock icon is for confidential mode after clicking on this, a window will appear and here you will be able to set the expiration time.
  4. After setting the expiration time, you will see one option of choosing the “SMS passcode”. By choosing this, the recipient will require a passcode to open the email.
  5. Now just save this and your email will have an expiration date. Send it to whoever you want with this expiration date.

How to add an expiration date to your email on Gmail App?

Now comes the Gmail app that is available for different devices. Here is how you can add expiration date to your email on Gmail app –

  1. First of all, you need to log in to your account on the Gmail app.
  2. After logging in, you need to compose an email so click on the compose button which will be on the bottom of the screen.
  3. Compose an email by following all the steps that you usually do and then go to the three dots which are available on the top-right corner of the screen.
  4. After clicking on those three dots, a menu will appear in which you will have to find the “confidential mode” option.
  5. Once you select the confidential mode, another form kind of thing will open up on your screen and you will see a section stating, “set expiration”. This is what you need to do to set the expiration date to your email. Here you will see that different options will appear for the expiration date and you can choose the one that suits you best.
  6. After selecting the expiration time, click on done and expiration time will be applied to your email. Now confirm to save these settings and apply to your emails.

Here you won’t find the option of SMS passcode as it is available only when you change the settings in the browser.

How to remove the access of the email even before the expiration date?

Now for those who want to remove the access of the email even before the expiration date. For this follow these given steps:

  1. When you open the app you will see the three line on the top-left corner of the page.
  2. Here you will go to the sent option where you will find all the sent emails.
  3. Now find the email that you have sent with an expiration date and open it. Here you will see the option to “remove access” on the bottom of the email. By selecting that you will be able to remove the access even before the expiration date and the recipient will not be able to open the email.
